Beyond Face-Value: Portraits from the Permanent Collection

November 18, 2023 - January 28, 2024

Fort Wayne Museum of Art

Fort Wayne, IN

Curious about what portraits can reveal (or hide) about our identity, I placed over 40 diverse portraits spanning 500 years from the museum’s s permanent collection in conversation to examine how (or if) representations of identity have evolved over time, asking viewers to consider, what is a portrait?

Featured in the museum's largest exhibition gallery, Beyond Face Value was an immense exercise in exhibition planning and design. The inclusion of paintings, prints, sculpture, glass, quilts, and other multi-media works required a clear curatorial narrative. I also worked with the education department to create an in-gallery activity station.
